Diamond Stick

Poly- and monocrystalline diamonds; 9 µm to 0.25 µm

Aka-Stick Poly and Aka-Stick Mono are diamond sticks, a modern alternative to diamond pastes offering additional benefits. You can apply the product also during the preparation and it is much easier to prime and assure full coverage of the polishing cloth. When you use a diamond stick to prime the polishing cloth before starting the preparation, the cloth is ready for immediate use.  Like our diamond pastes, diamond sticks have a very high concentration of diamonds, (250 ct/liter), which results in high removal rates and very short polishing times. They are compatible with water, oil, glycerol and alcohol. Containing just 0.1% water, they are excellent, also for the preparation of water sensitive materials.

FAQ:

Why should you prime a polishing cloth?

A new polishing cloth does not contain any diamonds and by adding suspension, it will take several minutes until the cloth is performing well. By running a diamond stick from the center to the edge of the polishing cloth while the disc is rotating slowly, the cloth is loaded with diamonds and such ready for immediate use.

When should I use a diamond stick in my sample preparation?

A diamond stick is ideal for priming a polishing cloth due to the high diamond concentration. It can also be used during preparation but that makes only sense for manual preparation or limited sample quantities. Otherwise diamond suspensions are much easier to work with. But for priming and manual preparation a diamond stick is superior to diamond paste.

How should I apply diamond stick on my polishing cloth?

Start by slowly rotating your polishing disc. Place the diamond stick in the center of the disc and move it slowly to the outside of the disc applying only moderate force. When you want to apply diamonds from a diamond stick during preparation, place the diamond stick about ⅓ of the diameter of the disc off the center, apply moderate force and let the disc rotate 2-3 turns before lifting the stick again. Because of the high diamond concentration of our diamond sticks this will apply a sufficient amount of diamonds for a few preparation steps.

Can diamond sticks be used for all materials?

The diamonds in a diamond stick are distributed in wax. This wax is, together with the diamonds distributed and worked into the polishing cloth. This is fine when priming the polishing cloth and also when preparing softer materials. However, when harder materials are prepared, only a very thin lubrication layer is wanted and then using a diamond stick during preparation can be a disadvantage
